[CTWM] Fixing firefox's mouse offset bug in ctwm

Firefox under ctwm has a nasty bug: when in full-screen, the mouse position is a bit offset.

Clicking, marking text, etc., is a bit away from the actual cursor position.

One fix under ctwm is to disable window decorations for Firefox.

You will lose buttons like maximize, minimize, and close, but there is a great solution for this:

export MOZ_GTK_TITLEBAR_DECORATION=system

Dang... problem solved!!!
This happens because Firefox attempts to guess modern (crap) desktop environments, e.g., (Fisher-Price) GNOME or KDE (aka KBloat), and completely miscalculates the window geometry math when forced into a minimal X11 environment.

Even enabling USE_EWMH in your .ctwmrc doesn't always fix it.

The only minus is you wont have the same window decoration on firefox
but at least the most buttons and the border are there...

Happy browsing in ctwm!

ctwm : 'forgets' key-bindings after a while...

This is f evil!! It seems this is a bug: sometimes key-bindings stopped working on ctwm

luckily there is a solution, put this on your .ctwmrc file

# Ignore Num Lock and Caps Lock IgnoreModifier { lock m2 }

hat tip to this message of the ctwm message-list.

UI bug on chrome....

Its since a while that I had an annoying issue with chrome, context menu or bookmark menus displayed a black background for some msec before display the the menu entries, very annoying indeed. Happened just on my linux installation -any linux installation that I tried btw, while on windoze the chrome was fine.
I reported that bug reported sometime ago, but got a "wontfix" status.

After some tests I just discovered that this bug is eliminated at least using the v76 of the google chrome (unstable).

SDL bug(?)

I have to say that was a bit strange... from time to time I noticed a US keyboard layout on the language bar (under win8 pro x64). After a little tracking I discovered that it was caused by SDL applications (like a special SVN build of DOSBox, or viceSDL (c= emulator)).

Temp solution:

rename the
HLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layouts\00000409 (ie the US) to 00000409a

workaround is not working.. I still have the f* additional keyboard

UPDATE:

Its a BUG! (and I don't think it will be fixed soon... )
